This is a Renaissance-inspired living room for clients who are philanthropists and patrons of the sciences. The Renaissance period was chosen as an appropriate reflection of the clients' interests. A Corian colonnade, illuminated by wallwashers, boasts a pattern derived from a scientific formula and spans the sides of the room. A floor-to-ceiling marble fluted fireplace flanks one end while an antique Renaissance tapestry hangs on the other. Contemporary artwork that plays with the Renaissance concepts of perspective, proportion, color and geometry is utilized. The ceiling plan is a modern coffered ceiling utilizing Marcel Wanders' Skygarden fixture. The floor consists of geometric terrazzo while a mixture of antique and modern Italian furniture occupies the space. Luxurious textiles like a subltly striped green velvet provide the finishing touches.
