The U.S. headquarters for Architects Without Borders International is a design that focuses on sustainability, simplicity and functionality. The visual concept is a play on simultaneously breaking through borders as well as being borderless. The work surfaces are composed of recycled plastic and cardboard tubes act as supports. Plywood clads the core structure and floor. Terracotta tiles greet visitors off the elevator as a symbolic nod to the earth as a universal material that binds all people.

In addition, acoustical felt softens the space. The workstations are designed to be open and reinforce the organization's ideas of being borderless and non-heirarchical. Furthermore, the pantry and lounge are incorporated into a seamless geometric ribbon while a single table runs through the center diagonally sliced at appropriate places. Each of the three zones operates as a border that is punctured.
